A subdomain is a second website, with its own unique content, but there is no new domain name. Instead, you use an existing domain name and change the www to another name. A subdomain name looks like:
An add-on domain is a second website, with its own unique content. This type does require us to register the new domain name before we can host it. So, if you want to host www.otherdomain.com, this is a solution. We normally don’t use add-on domains as they rely strongly on the primary domain. If anything goes wrong with the primary domain then all the add-on domains are down also. A parked domain is NOT a unique website. Instead, it is a masked forward to the primary domain name, much like a website alias Parked domains do NOT have separate web statistics, but you can give the parked domain its own email boxes or we can forward all the emails to the same name in the primary domain. Parked domains are commonly used when you have more than one domain name that should lead to your primary domain or when you have common misspellings of your domain name that you have registered. With a parked domain the content of PrimaryDomainName.com is loading in the browser, the address bar will display http://ParkedDomainName.com/. Domain forwarding is extremely similar to a parked domain except that the address bar changes to reflect the correct domain name. For example BusyBrian.net is forwarded to BusyBrain.net. |
